123 FELDENKRAIS PSYCHO-PHYSICAL POLYPHONY Up where we belong: walking on a backward path rejoining and embracing the roots of our logos, the Greeks bestowed the title eudaimonia upon an accord of psyche and soma, often translated as “happiness”. But Aristotle burrowed deeper, decreeing eudaimonia nothing less than “living well and faring well”. Flourishing. To flourish, the soma and psyche must be abundantly and consistently nourished. As renowned Indian poet Kabir [1440-1518] wrote in the ancient Hindi Bijak, “Do one thing completely, all is done; try to do all, you lose the one. To get your fill of flowers and fruit, water the root”. Ukrainian-born Moshe Feldenkrais - founder of the gentle art of Feldenkrais, who emigrated to Palestine as a young man - believed in this comprehensive, harmonious approach to psycho-physical health. After Dr. Feldenkrais suffered recurring debilitating knee injuries, the Method was born, a fascinating mix of Newtonian mechanics, physics, neurophysiology, movement development, biology and learning theories. Its goal: to re-educate the body, improve movement and enhance overall human functioning. Feldenkrais begets awareness, allowing the body to re-learn motions - from opening a cabinet, to perfecting Yoga's DownwardFacing Dog. under pressure #under pressure curated by Sylva Florence
